HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Recognizing and commending the collaboration between The honolulu shriners hospitals for children and the aloha shriners.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Aloha Shriners and the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children work in collaboration to serve the children and families in the State of Hawaii and the entire Pacific Basin, which includes Guam, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, and American Samoa; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Aloha Shriners was established on June 12, 1901, as a chapter or "temple" of Shriners International which is a brotherhood of men committed to family, ongoing personal growth, and providing care for children and families in need; and

 

     WHEREAS, with the support of the Aloha Shriners, the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children was the second hospital in the Shriner system, established in 1923, as a place where children with polio, clubfoot, and other orthopedic conditions could receive life-changing medical care; and

 

     WHEREAS, the current Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children was built in 2009 and is a state-of-the-art facility that provides Hawaii's children with the best orthopedic care, neurodevelopmental care, fracture clinic, surgery, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, orthotics, prosthetics workshop, and other ancillary services; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children, in collaboration with the Aloha Shriners, is recognized as one the world's greatest philanthropic endeavors and has evolved into an international hospital system that is able to sustain itself through donations so that all children receive care regardless of the families' ability to pay; and

     WHEREAS, their mission is to support the health care system and in doing so, they are fully committed to the health and well-being of the people of the State of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Aloha Shriners supports the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children's Patient Transportation Fund, which allows out-of-island patients and their families to travel to and from Hawaii without incurring a financial obligation; and

 

     WHEREAS, in addition to offering medical care, the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Aloha Shriners are committed to providing an academic teaching and research institution; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Aloha Shriners continue to make a tremendous impact on the families of the State of Hawaii and the entire Pacific Basin; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body recognizes and commends the collaboration between the Honolulu Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Aloha Shriners and their dedication to ensuring the well-being of the people of the State of Hawaii.
