HOUSE RESOLUTION
Encouraging the united states military to ESTABLISH AND PROMOTE hawaii AS a PREMIER rest and recreation destination FOR ACTIVE DUTY PERSONNEL.
WHEREAS, the United States military has active-duty personnel serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, military personnel are generally allowed leave for rest and recreation -- a short respite to allow troops to return home or decompress away from an active-duty location; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii is world renowned for its tropical climate, good weather, friendly, hospitable people, natural beauty, and sandy beaches; and
WHEREAS, encouraging military personnel to spend their rest and recreation time in the State would allow them to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing stay and also attract more visitors to stimulate the State's tourism industry and economy; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii could become a premier rest and recreation location for all active-duty military who want to spend their leisure time in the islands; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that the Legislature encourages all services of the United States military to establish and promote Hawaii as a premier rest and recreation destination for active-duty personnel; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each service of the United States military is requested to send all active-duty personnel returning from a tour of active duty to spend a week in Hawaii to decompress, relax, and mitigate the effects of combat related stress; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States military services are also requested to consider establishing Hawaii as a medical center specializing in suicide prevention and mitigating the effects of post traumatic stress disorder; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, to Hawaii's congressional delegation, the United States Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the United States Army, the Secretary of the United States Navy, the Secretary of the United States Air Force, the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, and the Commander of the United States Pacific Command.
