HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Congratulating dUWAYNE aBE aS hawaii's 2014 national distinguished principal, kEITH hAYASHI as hawaii's 2015 hIGH SCHOOL principal OF THE YEAR, ELYNNE CHUNG AS HAWAII'S 2015 MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, jACQUE SHANER AS HAWAII'S 2015 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, and eRNEST bROWN DESILVA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HALEIWA elementary school, and rED HILL elementary school as 2014 hawaii blue ribbon schools.

 

 

     WHEREAS, principals play a critical role in establishing a school's culture and academic environment and providing a place for students to develop crucial learning skills and habits needed as they progress in their education; and

 

     WHEREAS, DUWAYNE ABE, the Principal at Salt Lake Elementary School, is Hawaii's 2014 National Distinguished Principal due to his extraordinary dedication and passion to improving the school's academics, which have resulted in greatly improved graduation and faculty retention rates; and

 

     WHEREAS, as a result of his "School of the Heart" philosophy, which promotes respect at Waipahu High School, KEITH HAYASHI, the Principal at Waipahu High School, has been selected as the 2015 High School Principal of the Year; and

 

     WHEREAS, after taking the helm in 2010 and as a result of her determination to insist on what is best for the students, ELYNNE CHUNG has transformed Mililani Middle School, despite facing unique challenges as one of just four year-round multi-track schools in Hawaii, into a flourishing educational institution; and

     WHEREAS, JACQUE SHANER, the Principal at Kaneohe Elementary School, is the 2015 Hawaii Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year due to her strong leadership skills and unwavering dedication to educate and serve the students and community; and

     WHEREAS, three elementary schools, distinguishing themselves as examples of educational excellence, have been designated as Blue Ribbon Schools in the State of Hawaii and have earned nominations as national Blue Ribbon Schools; and

 

     WHEREAS, ERNEST BOWEN DESILVA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's School-Home partnership, focused use of differentiated instruction, inclusion of IDEA students, and a support system that places a trained tutor in classrooms as part of the school's Response To Intervention is a key factor in DeSilva’s long-standing success and, in addition to the "can-do" attitude of the classroom teachers on adapting to change and preparing young students for a technologically advanced world has contributed to the school being recognized as a 2014-2015 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School; and

 

     WHEREAS, through hard work and perseverance, HALE‘IWA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has made impressive progress in meeting its educational goals and has been named a 2013-2014 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School through the resilience, caring, and hard work of an incredible faculty and staff that lies at the heart of Hale‘iwa’s students' success which cultivates an environment that appreciates and values the social and emotional well-being of students because they believe that such a nurturing culture is the foundation for developing academically successful students; and

 

     WHEREAS, the focus of RED HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL on administering an educational program that is rigorous with enriching experiences for all students and the school's goal of developing the "whole child", both academically and socially, contribute to RED HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS's status as a 2012-2013 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors DUWAYNE ABE, KEITH HAYASHI, ELYNNE CHUNG, JACQUE SHANER, ERNEST BOWEN DESILVA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HALEIWA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND RED HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
