HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE GOVERNOR TO designate september as "hawaii five-0" month.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Hawaii Five-0 is an iconic American television series created by Leonard Freeman and produced by CBS Productions that has played a key role in our State's history; and

 

     WHEREAS, from the local cast and crew to the millions of viewers that became visitors to our state, Hawaii is proud to welcome back CBS Productions for the re-introduction of this classic series in 2010; and

 

     WHEREAS, having aired for 12 seasons on CBS from September 20, 1968, to April 4, 1980, the original Hawaii Five-0 is one of the longest continuous-running police series in American television history, featuring a fictional state police unit run by Detective Steve McGarrett, played by actor Jack Lord, and his second-in-command Danny "Danno" Williams, played by James MacArthur, with local actors Kam Fong, Zulu, Herman Wedemeyer, and Al Harrington, among others, rounding out the rest of the cast; and

 

     WHEREAS, the name of the television series came from the fact that Hawaii was the 50th state to join the United States, and its musical theme continues to be a symbolic anthem not only to the people of Hawaii, but to a global audience; and

 

     WHEREAS, recognizing the popularity of the Hawaii Five-0 series, CBS Productions has returned to Hawaii, celebrating the new production that honors the original series with a vibrant new energy that is sure to capture a loyal following worldwide; and
     WHEREAS, playing Detective Steve McGarrett, Alex O'Laughlin is joined by Scott Caan who plays Detective "Danno" Williams, Daniel Dae Kim who plays Chin Ho Kelly, and Grace Park who plays Chin's cousin, Kona Kalakaua; and

 

     WHEREAS, the September 20, 2010, world premier of Hawaii Five-0 marked the 42nd anniversary of the original premier date of the series; and

 

     WHEREAS, according to the Research and Economic Analysis Division of the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, Hawaii Five-0 will generate an anticipated economic impact of more than $60 million dollars for our state; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, that this body urges the Governor to designate September as "Hawaii Five-0 Month"; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism.
