THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

1196

TWENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATURE, 2015

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to education.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that there is a lack of sufficient educational and study materials available in the rural areas of the island of Hawaii.  The legislature further finds that the most efficient means by which to address this current dearth of materials is the establishment of a bookmobile.  A bookmobile is a transportation-friendly means by which textbooks, study materials, and other educational materials may be accessed by more remote areas of the State.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $300,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2015-2016 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 for the purpose of the establishment and maintenance of a bookmobile that shall serve the rural areas of the island of Hawaii.

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2015.
