A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the kihei boat harbor.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. In Hawaii, small boat harbors play an important role to the ocean recreational experiences of residents and visitors. Such experiences include yacht racing, canoe regattas, board sailing, ocean swimming, and surfing. The legislature finds that the quality of ocean recreation experiences may be diminished by the inadequate upkeep of the State's boating facilities.
The legislature further finds that despite the State's efforts to dredge the channel entrance and turning basin in 2007, launching and vessel retrieval problems continue to persist creating unsafe conditions during certain ocean conditions.
SECTION 2. The director of finance is authorized to issue general obligation bonds in the sum of $800,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary is appropriated for fiscal year 2016-2017 for the purpose of designing, permitting, and dredging the Kihei Boat Harbor.
1. Kihei Boat Ramp
Maintenance Dredging $750,000
Design/Permitting $50,000
Total funding $800,000
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of transportation for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2016.
