SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the city and county of honolulu to refurbish the puuloa beach park pavilion.

 

 

     WHEREAS, Puuloa Beach Park at the end of Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach is a popular location for holding celebrations, conducting gatherings, and enjoying the outdoors; and

 

     WHEREAS, the covered pavilion at the park has accommodated many events over the years, such as birthdays and graduations; and

 

     WHEREAS, the condition of the pavilion and the surrounding park complex has deteriorated, leaving them in a dilapidated state; and

 

     WHEREAS, a modest investment in refurbishing the pavilion would result in many benefits; and

 

     WHEREAS, separate fees could be charged for reserving and subsequently using the pavilion, with a portion of the fee revenue set aside for the costs of the pavilion's upkeep and to fund other improvements elsewhere in the park complex; and

 

     WHEREAS, without any refurbishment or other attention, the park and pavilion will fall into further disrepair and become a neighborhood blight instead of serving as a community treasure; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, the House of Representatives concurring, that the City and County of Honolulu is urged to refurbish the Puuloa Beach Park pavilion as part of a larger plan to renovate and improve the entire Puuloa Beach Park complex; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City and County of Honolulu is urged to charge fees to reserve and use the refurbished pavilion and to use a portion of those fees to maintain the pavilion and fund other improvements to the park complex; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu; Director of Parks and Recreation of the City and County of Honolulu; and Chairperson of the Ewa Beach Neighborhood Board.
