Section
306C.11,
Code
2011,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
7.
Signs
erected
by
a
city
with
a
3
population
of
less
than
twenty
thousand
within
the
right-of-way
4
of
a
primary
highway,
other
than
an
interstate
or
freeway
5
primary
highway,
located
within
the
corporate
limits
of
6
the
city
for
the
purpose
of
directing
traffic
to
the
city’s
7
attractions.
A
sign
erected
pursuant
to
this
subsection
shall
8
be
maintained
by
the
city
and
shall
not
detract
from
the
9
visibility
of
an
official
traffic
control
device.

EXPLANATION

This
bill
allows
a
city
with
a
population
of
less
than
12
20,000
to
place
signs
within
the
right-of-way
of
a
primary
13
highway
located
within
the
corporate
limits
of
a
city
for
the
14
purpose
of
directing
traffic
to
the
city’s
attractions.
The
15
bill
requires
that
a
city
is
responsible
for
maintaining
such
a
16
sign,
and
the
sign
shall
not
detract
from
the
visibility
of
an
17
official
traffic
control
device.
The
provision
does
not
apply
18
to
interstate
or
freeway
primary
highways.
