  3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.1, Code 2016, is amended by adding
  1  2 the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  76A.  "Sports car" means a motor vehicle
  1  4 originally manufactured with seats for two passengers, with a
  1  5 front bumper that sits eight inches from the ground or less,
  1  6 and capable of exceeding one hundred thirty miles per hour.
  1  7    Sec. 2.  Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2016, is amended
  1  8 to read as follows:
  1  9    2.  Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle which is
  1 10 model year 1948 or older, and is reconstructed or specially
  1 11 constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 1948
  1 12 vehicle or older, is a sports car, or is registered as an
  1 13 antique vehicle under section 321.115, other than a truck
  1 14 registered for more than five tons, motorcycle, or truck
  1 15 tractor, may display one registration plate on the rear of the
  1 16 vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the vehicle
  1 17 is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle is
  1 18 operated on a public highway.
