Section
49.57,
subsection
6,
Code
2020,
is

amended
to
read
as
follows:

portion
of
the
ballot
shall
include
the
words
“Official

ballot”,
the
unique
identification
number
or
name
assigned
by

the
commissioner
to
the
ballot
style,
the
date
of
the
election,

and
the
impression
or
likeness
of
the
county
seal
of
the
county

of
the
commissioner
who
has
caused
the
ballot
to
be
printed

pursuant
to
section
49.51
.

331.552,
subsection
4,
Code
2020,
is
amended

to
read
as
follows:

the
official
county
seal
provided
by
the
county.

official
seal
shall
be
an
impression
seal
on
the
face
of

shall
appear
the
name
of
the
county,
the
word
“county”
,

which
may
be
abbreviated,
the
word
“treasurer”
which
may
be

abbreviated,
and
the
word
“Iowa”.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance

the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
design
and
use
of
county
seals.

Under
current
law,
a
county
treasurer
is
required
to
keep
20
the
official
county
seal.
The
official
county
seal
shall
21
include
the
name
of
the
county,
the
word
“county”,
which
may
be
22
abbreviated,
the
word
“treasurer”,
which
may
be
abbreviated,
23
and
the
word
“Iowa”.
The
county
seal
of
the
county
of
the
24
commissioner
who
has
caused
a
ballot
to
be
printed
shall
appear
25
on
the
ballot.

The
bill
strikes
the
requirement
that
the
county
seal
27
include
the
word
“treasurer”.
The
bill
allows
the
impression
28
or
likeness
of
the
applicable
county
seal
to
be
included
on
a
29
ballot.
