H.F. 282 Section 1. Section 708.14, subsection 2, Code 2021, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. A person who violates this section commits a class “D” 3 “C” felony. 4 EXPLANATION 5 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 6 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 7 This bill relates to abuse of a corpse and provides 8 penalties. 9 Under current law, a person commits the crime of abuse of a 10 human corpse if the person mutilates, disfigures, or dismembers 11 a human corpse with the intent to conceal a crime or hides or 12 buries a human corpse with the intent to conceal a crime. The 13 bill increases the penalty for conviction of abuse of a human 14 corpse from a class “D” felony to a class “C” felony. 15 A class “C” felony is punishable by confinement for no more 16 than 10 years and a fine of at least $1,370 but not more than 17 $13,660. 18 -1- LSB 1315HV (1) 89 as/rh 1/ 1
