1.
NEW
SECTION
.
155A.44
Vaccine
and
immunization
1
administration.

1.
In
accordance
with
rules
adopted
by
the
board,
a
licensed
3
pharmacist
may
administer
vaccines
and
immunizations
pursuant
4
to
this
section.
5
2.
The
board
shall
adopt
rules
requiring
pharmacists
to
6
complete
training
pursuant
to
continuing
education
requirements
7
and
establish
protocols
for
the
review
of
prescriptions
and
8
administration
of
vaccines
and
immunizations.
The
rules
shall
9
allow
a
licensed
pharmacist
who
has
completed
the
required
10
training
to
administer
vaccines
and
immunizations
in
accordance
11
with
the
rules
of
the
board
and
shall
include
the
United
States
12
centers
for
disease
control
and
prevention’s
protocol
for
the
13
administration
of
the
vaccinations
and
immunizations.

3.
Prior
to
the
administration
of
a
vaccination
or
15
immunization
authorized
by
subsection
4,
paragraph
“b”
,
16
subparagraphs
(2)
through
(4),
pursuant
to
the
required
17
protocols,
a
licensed
pharmacist
shall
consult
and
review
the
18
statewide
immunization
registry
or
health
information
network.

The
board
shall
adopt
rules
requiring
the
reporting
of
the
20
administration
of
vaccines
and
immunizations
authorized
by
21
subsection
4,
paragraph
“b”
,
subparagraphs
(2)
through
(4),
to
22
a
patient’s
primary
health
care
provider,
primary
physician,
23
and
a
statewide
immunization
registry
or
health
information
24
network.

4.
A
licensed
pharmacist
shall
only
administer
the
26
following
vaccines
and
immunizations
to
the
designated
age
27
categories:
28
a.
Vaccination
and
immunization
of
patients
ages
six
29
years
through
seventeen
years
shall
be
limited
to
vaccines
or
30
immunizations
for
influenza
and
other
emergency
immunizations
31
or
vaccines
in
response
to
a
public
health
emergency.
32
b.
Patients
ages
eighteen
years
and
older
may
receive
33
a
vaccination
or
immunization
administered
by
a
licensed
34
pharmacist
for
any
of
the
following:

paragraph

“a”
,
including
all
forms
of
the
influenza
vaccine.

An
immunization
or
vaccination
recommended
by
the

United
States
centers
for
disease
control
and
prevention

advisory
committee
on
immunization
practices
in
its
approved
5
vaccination
schedule
for
adults.

(3)
An
immunization
or
vaccine
recommended
by
the
United
7
States
centers
for
disease
control
and
prevention
for
8
international
travel.

(4)
A
Tdap
(tetanus,
diptheria,
acellular
pertussis)
10
vaccination
in
a
booster
application.

EXPLANATION
12
This
bill
allows
licensed
pharmacists
to
administer
vaccines
13
and
immunizations.
The
bill
provides
that
the
board
of
14
pharmacy
must
adopt
rules
requiring
pharmacists
to
complete
15
training
pursuant
to
continuing
education
requirements
and
16
establish
protocols
for
the
review
of
prescriptions
and
17
administration
of
vaccines
and
immunizations.
The
rules
18
shall
allow
a
licensed
pharmacist
who
has
completed
required
19
training
to
administer
vaccines
and
immunizations
as
provided
20
by
rule
and
the
United
States
centers
for
disease
control
and
21
prevention’s
(CDC)
protocol.

A
licensed
pharmacist
allowed
to
administer
vaccines
23
and
immunizations
under
the
bill
is
limited
to
specific
24
vaccines
and
immunizations
for
certain
age
groups.
A
licensed
25
pharmacist
may
administer
vaccines
or
immunizations
for
26
influenza
and
emergency
immunizations
or
vaccines
in
response
27
to
a
public
health
emergency
for
patients
aged
6
years
through
28
17
years.

A
patient
aged
18
years
or
older
may
receive
an
immunization
30
or
vaccine
from
a
licensed
pharmacist
for
influenza
or
Tdap,
31
a
vaccine
or
immunization
in
response
to
a
public
health
32
emergency,
an
immunization
or
vaccine
recommended
by
the
CDC
33
advisory
committee
on
immunization
practices
in
its
approved
34
vaccination
schedule
for
adults,
or
vaccines
and
immunizations

recommended
by
the
CDC
for
international
travel.
The
bill

requires
a
pharmacist
administering
an
immunization
or
2
vaccination
recommended
by
the
CDC
advisory
committee
in
its
3
approved
vaccination
schedule
for
adults,
an
immunization
or
4
vaccination
recommended
by
the
CDC
for
international
travel,
5
or
a
Tdap
vaccination
to
an
adult
pursuant
to
the
bill
to
6
consult
and
review
the
statewide
immunization
registry
or
7
health
information
network
prior
to
administering
the
vaccine
8
or
immunization.
The
bill
also
requires
the
board
to
adopt
9
rules
requiring
a
pharmacist
administering
an
immunization
or
10
vaccination
recommended
by
the
CDC

committee
in
its

vaccination

for
adults,
an
immunization
or

recommended
by
the
