1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1653

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1653, AS AMENDED, | ||||||
3 | by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the | ||||||
4 | following:

5 | "Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by adding | ||||||
6 | Section 4-225 as follows:

7 | (605 ILCS 5/4-225 new) | ||||||
8 | Sec. 4-225. Low-clearance early warning device pilot | ||||||
9 | program. The Department shall establish a pilot program to | ||||||
10 | erect early warning devices on or near bridges or viaducts in | ||||||
11 | this State. Early warning devices may include LiDAR, radar, | ||||||
12 | visual signals, or additional signage. The Department may work | ||||||
13 | with interested stakeholders to identify bridges and viaducts | ||||||
14 | for the erection of early warning devices on roads outside of | ||||||
15 | the Department's jurisdiction. The Department may work with | ||||||
16 | the University of Illinois on the pilot program. The pilot |

1 | program shall include, but shall not be limited to, evaluating | ||||||
2 | the effectiveness of early warning devices, developing design | ||||||
3 | specifications, and projecting estimated costs. The Department | ||||||
4 | may adopt administrative rules regarding the pilot program. | ||||||
5 | The Department or local authority responsible for maintaining | ||||||
6 | an early warning device may impose a fine on a motorist who | ||||||
7 | damages an early warning device. The fine shall not exceed | ||||||
8 | $1,000. ".
