Bill Title: Amends the Criminal Code of 1961 and the Unified Code of Corrections. Changes and limits the aggravating factors for which a person convicted of first degree murder may be sentenced to death. Provides for aggravating factors in which a person may be sentenced to natural life imprisonment. Provides that some aggravating factors for which the defendant may have been sentenced to death before the effective date of the amendatory Act may only be considered in determining whether the defendant may be sentenced to natural life imprisonment. Provides that if and only if Senate Bill 3539 of the 96th General Assembly becomes law, then the provisions of that bill abolishing the death penalty are repealed. Effective July 1, 2011.
