Bill Title: Amends the Public Employment Office Act. Provides that the Department of Employment Security in cooperation with the Department of Corrections shall seek to provide proper employment opportunities for discharged convicts or prisoners. Deletes obsolete references to the Department of Public Welfare. Deletes redundant language. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning State government.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Public Employment Office Act is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 1d as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (20 ILCS 1015/1d) (from Ch. 48, par. 177)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 1d. It shall be the duty of the Department of | ||||||
8 | Employment Security to
obtain from the Department of Public | ||||||
9 | Welfare, ninety days before the
discharge of any convict from | ||||||
10 | either penitentiary, or the discharge of a
prisoner from the | ||||||
11 | reformatory, the name, occupation, and such other
information | ||||||
12 | as may be of aid in obtaining employment for such discharged
| ||||||
13 | convict or prisoner.
| ||||||
14 | The Department of Employment Security, through the several | ||||||
15 | free employment
offices, in cooperation with the Department of | ||||||
16 | Corrections, shall seek to provide proper employment | ||||||
17 | opportunities for discharged convicts or
prisoners , so that | ||||||
18 | such employment may be available at the time of such
discharge , | ||||||
19 | and shall assist such discharged prisoners to retain suitable
| ||||||
20 | employment for such reasonable time as will afford such | ||||||
21 | prisoners an
opportunity to become self-reliant , to the end | ||||||
22 | that every man shall be
encouraged in his effort to go | ||||||
23 | straight . In no instance shall there be any
misrepresentation |

1 | as to the records of persons for whom employment is
sought, | ||||||
2 | under the provisions of this Section.
| ||||||
3 | The Department of Employment Security through the several | ||||||
4 | free employment
offices shall also co-operate with the | ||||||
5 | Department of Corrections Public Welfare to secure
suitable | ||||||
6 | employment for paroled convicts or prisoners and to help them
| ||||||
7 | retain such employment during the period of their parole and | ||||||
8 | for such
reasonable time thereafter as shall afford such | ||||||
9 | convicts or prisoners an
opportunity to become self-reliant.

11 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
