1 | AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 11-1204 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (625 ILCS 5/11-1204) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-1204)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 11-1204. Stop and yield signs.
| ||||||
8 | (a) Preferential right-of-way at an intersection may be | ||||||
9 | indicated by
stop signs or yield signs as authorized in | ||||||
10 | Section 11-302 of this Act.
| ||||||
11 | (b) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or | ||||||
12 | traffic
control signal, every driver of a vehicle and every | ||||||
13 | motorman of a streetcar
approaching a stop intersection | ||||||
14 | indicated by a stop sign shall stop before
entering the | ||||||
15 | crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, in the
event | ||||||
16 | there is no crosswalk, shall stop at a clearly marked stop | ||||||
17 | line, but
if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near | ||||||
18 | side of the intersection, or if none, then at the point nearest | ||||||
19 | the intersection roadway where the
driver has a view of | ||||||
20 | approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before
| ||||||
21 | entering the intersection.

22 | (c) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign if | ||||||
23 | required for
safety to stop shall stop before entering the |

1 | crosswalk on the near side of
the intersection or, in the event | ||||||
2 | there is no crosswalk, at a clearly
marked stop line, but if | ||||||
3 | none, then at the point nearest the intersecting
roadway where | ||||||
