Bill Title: Amends the Service Member Residential Property Act. Provides that if a service member who has entered into certain residential leases is killed in action or while on active duty, then the immediate family or dependents of the service member may terminate the lease. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning military service.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Service Member Residential Property Act is
5amended by changing Section 5-15 as follows:
6 (330 ILCS 62/5-15)
7 Sec. 5-15. Termination by lessee; immediate family;
8dependents. The lessee on a lease described in Section 5-10
9may, at the lessee's option, terminate the lease at any time
10after (i) the lessee's entry into military service or (ii) the
11date of the lessee's military orders described in subdivision
12(2) of Section 5-10, as the case may be.
13 If the lessee on a lease described in Section 5-10 is
14killed in action or while on active duty, then the immediate
15family or dependents of the lessee may terminate the lease.

17 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18becoming law.
