| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4757, AS AMENDED, by | ||||||
| 3 | replacing everything after the enacting clause with the | ||||||
| 4 | following:

| 5 | "Section 5. The Fire Sprinkler Dormitory Act is amended by | ||||||
| 6 | changing Section 10 as follows:

| 8 | Sec. 10. Fire sprinkler systems required. Subject to the | ||||||
| 9 | establishment of a fire sprinkler dormitory revolving loan | ||||||
| 10 | program under Section 15 of this Act, fire sprinkler systems | ||||||
| 11 | are required in the dormitories of all post-secondary | ||||||
| 12 | educational institutions by 2013, unless a post-secondary | ||||||
| 13 | educational institution files a compliance plan with the Office | ||||||
| 14 | of the State Fire Marshal, approved by the Office, by January | ||||||
| 15 | 1, 2013. The compliance plan shall include a detailed timeline | ||||||
| 16 | that outlines completion of the planned sprinkler system | ||||||

| 1 | installations. The Office of the State Fire Marshal may, at its | ||||||
| 2 | discretion, require periodic updates from a post-secondary | ||||||
| 3 | educational institution to document its efforts to comply with | ||||||
| 4 | this Act. All sprinkler installations required by this Act | ||||||
| 5 | shall be completed and operational by December 31, 2014. A | ||||||
| 6 | violation of this Section is a business offense punishable by a | ||||||
| 7 | fine of not more than $1,000 per day. This requirement includes | ||||||
| 8 | current structures as well as newly constructed dormitories. | ||||||
| 9 | Nothing in this Act may be construed to abrogate any statute, | ||||||
| 10 | rule, or ordinance requiring that a fire extinguisher be | ||||||
| 11 | present in a dormitory.
