| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Kent
McCanless on being | ||||||
| 4 | selected as the 2019 Illinois Emergency Services Management | ||||||
| 5 | Association (IESMA) Emergency Manager of the Year and commend | ||||||
| 6 | him for his distinguished service as
the director of the | ||||||
| 7 | Woodford County Emergency Management Agency and to the
| ||||||
| 8 | residents of the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Since 2014, Kent McCanless has served as the first | ||||||
| 10 | full-time director of the Woodford
County Emergency Management | ||||||
| 11 | Agency; he is dedicated to
educating, training, and preparing | ||||||
| 12 | Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) volunteers and | ||||||
| 13 | residents to better prepare the State of Illinois to respond in | ||||||
| 14 | the event of disaster; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Kent McCanless has a distinguished history of | ||||||
| 16 | public service; he served as a storm spotter for the Eureka | ||||||
| 17 | Emergency Services and Disaster Agency,
as both a volunteer and | ||||||
| 18 | career firefighter, as an EMT, and as a fire and life safety
| ||||||
| 19 | teacher; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Kent McCanless is active with the Care Tracking | ||||||
| 21 | Service, an
invaluable service dedicated to keeping those who | ||||||
| 22 | suffer from Alzheimer's disease
and dementia safe, active, and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | independent for as long as possible; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Kent McCanless works alongside area schools, | ||||||
| 3 | nursing homes, and
several community groups to improve | ||||||
| 4 | evacuation procedures, further assisting
citizens of the State | ||||||
| 5 | of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Kent McCanless has extensive training as a first | ||||||
| 7 | responder and
experience in numerous natural disasters, | ||||||
| 8 | including the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Kent McCanless was presented his 2019 Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | Emergency Manager of the Year award by IESMA President Dawn | ||||||
| 11 | Cook; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we congratulate Kent
McCanless on being selected as the 2019 | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois Emergency Services Management Association Emergency | ||||||
| 16 | Manager of the Year, and we commend him for his distinguished | ||||||
