HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Terry L. Miller
4on receiving the 2019 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from
5the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
6 WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural
8settings, especially with the high percentage of older adults
9living in rural America and small towns; and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller graduated from the Southern Illinois
11University School of Medicine in 1989; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller completed his residency in family
13practice at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at
14Rockford in 1992; and
15 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller is a veteran and served our county for
16over 14 years in the U.S. Army, both on active duty where he
17spent part of his time in Honduras and in the Reserve; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's began his professional career in the
19rural health arena with FHN Memorial Hospital in 1992 and has
20continued to serve patients in the region for the past 26

1years; and
2 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller is extremely committed to ensuring the
3upmost quality of care to veterans and volunteers, acting as
4the physician for any newly admitted veterans at the area's
5local nursing home; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller is always a phone call away and often
7makes his rounds seven days a week; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's commitment to the community extends
9beyond medicine; he has been an active Boy Scout Leader for
10over 20 years, often holding the meetings in the clinic's lobby
11and spending part of his summer vacation as a volunteer
12physician at the National Boy Scout Jamboree; and
13 WHEREAS, While Dr. Miller's hectic schedule may not allow
14him to go on a jungle safari, one of his favorite activities is
15being able to spend time at the zoo with his family; therefore,
16be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we congratulate Dr. Terry L. Miller on receiving the 2019 Rural
20Physician of Excellence Award and commend him for his
21compassion and dedication to his patients and for filling such
