2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John E. | ||||||
4 | Price III of Thebes, who passed away on January 31, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Price was born to John E. and Zelma (Bowles) | ||||||
6 | Price Jr. in Cairo on January 29, 1956; he was a lifelong | ||||||
7 | resident of Southern Illinois; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Price was a retired business agent and | ||||||
9 | secretary treasurer for Local 773, and he dedicated his life | ||||||
10 | to the working men and women of the union and The Laborers | ||||||
11 | Charitable Foundation of Local 773; he began working | ||||||
12 | construction through Local 773 in the summer of 1976; he was | ||||||
13 | appointed business manager of Local 773 in Cairo in 1998, | ||||||
14 | representing construction, industrial, public employees, and | ||||||
15 | health care workers; he later became a representative for | ||||||
16 | railroad construction and maintenance, environmental clean-up, | ||||||
17 | and derailment members; he was appointed to the Board of | ||||||
18 | Trustees of the Railroad Maintenance & Industrial Health and | ||||||
19 | Welfare Fund in 2002; after the 2003 merger, he was elected as | ||||||
20 | secretary-treasurer for Local 773 in Marion, vice president of | ||||||
21 | 12th District AFL/CIO Community on Political Education | ||||||
22 | (C.O.P.E.), sergeant at arms for the Southern and Central | ||||||
23 | Illinois Laborers' District Council, and delegate to the LiUNA |

1 | National Convention until his retirement in 2017; after his | ||||||
2 | retirement, he served the local union by remaining on the | ||||||
3 | Local 773 Retiree Board, where he later served as president; | ||||||
4 | and

5 | WHEREAS, John Price served on numerous boards, including | ||||||
6 | the Shawnee Community College Foundation as a board member and | ||||||
7 | chairman, The Laborers Care (TLC), the Alexander County | ||||||
8 | Housing Authority, the Alexander County Port Authority Board, | ||||||
9 | the Horseshoe Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Local 773 | ||||||
10 | Credit Union, Railcet, the Railroad Training Board, the | ||||||
11 | Alexander County Building Commission as commissioner, Local | ||||||
12 | 773 Southern Illinois Laborers Health & Welfare, and Delta | ||||||
13 | Development; and

14 | WHEREAS, John Price was a member and trustee of the Olive | ||||||
15 | Branch United Methodist Church; he was a former deputy for the | ||||||
16 | Pulaski County Sheriff's Department from 1980 until 1987; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, John Price loved his family deeply and cherished | ||||||
18 | every friendship he made; he loved fishing, riding his | ||||||
19 | side-by-side with his grandson, and working in the yard; he | ||||||
20 | was ready to help when anyone had a need, and he was usually | ||||||
21 | the first one there and the last to leave; and

22 | WHEREAS, John Price was preceded in death by his parents; |

2 | WHEREAS, John Price is survived by his wife, Nancy Price; | ||||||
3 | his sons, John E. Price IV, Zachary Cache Price, and Trenton | ||||||
4 | Chase Price (Sara Kuehl); his brother, Ronald (Martha) Price; | ||||||
5 | his sister, Pamela (Mike) Malone; his grandson, Lincoln | ||||||
6 | Everette Price; his soon-to-arrive grandchild, John Price; and | ||||||
7 | his numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; | ||||||
8 | therefore, be it

9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
10 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
11 | we mourn the passing of John E. Price III and extend our | ||||||
12 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
13 | and loved him; and be it further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to the family of John Price as an expression of our | ||||||
16 | deepest sympathy.
