HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Roy C.
4Verner Sr. of Chicago, who passed away on February 3, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. was born in Oran, Missouri to Rosie
6Lee Edwards and Scott Verner on August 20, 1929; he attended
7school in Missouri until the age of 12; he then moved to
8Chicago; he married Celestine on November 22, 1947; they had
9five children, Sandra, Janice, Loyd, Rose, and Roy C. Verner
10Jr.; and
11 WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. worked at the Rose Packing Company
12for 35 years, working his way up to master butcher; while
13there, he represented his union; he also worked over 13 years
14for Pinkerton Security at Mount Sinai Hospital; for his strong
15work ethic and fairness, he received numerous awards and
16certificates of recognition from employers; and
17 WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. was a warm, trusting, hardworking,
18smart, and strong man loved by all who knew him; he committed
19to his faith at an early age; alongside his wife, Roy Verner
20Sr. was known for hosting the annual, weekend-long family
21reunion in Chicago during August, after years of reunions at
22the family homestead in Missouri; and

1 WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. was preceded in death by his
2parents; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we mourn the passing of Roy C. Verner Sr. and extend our
6sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
7and loved him; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Roy Verner Sr. as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
