2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Donald E. "Don" | ||||||
4 | Perry, Kennedy Junior High School Principal in Naperville, on | ||||||
5 | his retirement and successful career as an educator and civil | ||||||
6 | service leader; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Don Perry started his education career after | ||||||
8 | graduating from Olivet Nazarene University in 1976; he began | ||||||
9 | teaching at Alan Shepard School and Shabbona Elementary in | ||||||
10 | Bourbonnais, and taught there for 3 years before moving to | ||||||
11 | Crete, where he taught at Crete Elementary School for 5 years; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Don Perry took a brief break from teaching to | ||||||
14 | receive more education at Illinois State University, where he | ||||||
15 | graduated with a Master's in Education Administration; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Don Perry became the Assistant Principal at Palos | ||||||
17 | West Elementary School in Palos West, and then moved on to | ||||||
18 | become Principal at Beebe Elementary School in Naperville, | ||||||
19 | later becoming Principal of Kennedy Junior High School, also in | ||||||
20 | Naperville, where has served for the past 12 years; and

21 | WHEREAS, Throughout his educational career Don Perry has |

| |||||||
1 | helped his schools achieve national and State recognition in | ||||||
2 | excellence, including being recognized in 2002 and 2008 as a | ||||||
3 | Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of | ||||||
4 | Education, declaring that the school was both academically | ||||||
5 | superior and there were dramatic gains in student achievement | ||||||
6 | to high levels; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, During Don Perry's tenure, Kennedy Junior High | ||||||
8 | School received recognition from the Association of Illinois | ||||||
9 | Middle Schools and the Illinois State Board of Education, the | ||||||
10 | Illinois Horizon School Award in 2002 and 2008, and "Those Who | ||||||
11 | Excel" Award for School Excellence in 2001; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Don Perry was named to Who's Who in American | ||||||
13 | Colleges and Universities and was an nominee for the "Those Who | ||||||
14 | Excel" award presented by the Illinois State Board of | ||||||
15 | Education; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Don Perry has not only committed his life to | ||||||
17 | education but has also committed himself to civil service, as a | ||||||
18 | graduate of the Citizens Police Academy; he served as Chairman | ||||||
19 | to the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners in Naperville; he | ||||||
20 | has also been involved with numerous boards and committees and | ||||||
21 | has been adamant in his fund-raising for numerous Naperville | ||||||
22 | organizations, such as the United Way, the Naperville Historic | ||||||
23 | Society, the American Cancer Society, Veterans Poppy Day, the |

1 | American Heart Association, Citizens Appreciate Police/CAP | ||||||
2 | Awards, and Naperville's Millennium Carillon Drive; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Don Perry has committed himself to excellence in | ||||||
4 | education and civil duty, has inspired and served as a role | ||||||
5 | model for both children and adults throughout his life; | ||||||
6 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
8 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
9 | congratulate Kennedy Junior High School Principal Donald E. | ||||||
10 | "Don" Perry on his retirement and successful career in | ||||||
11 | education and civil service; and be it further

12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to Donald E. "Don" Perry as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
14 | and esteem.
