2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of | ||||||
4 | Dominique Nicole Caldwell, who passed away on September 9, | ||||||
5 | 2022; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell was born in Oak Lawn on July | ||||||
7 | 19, 1985; she attended Mayfair Academy in her early years; she | ||||||
8 | graduated from Seton Academy; she received her Bachelor of | ||||||
9 | Arts in Speech Communication with a minor in Spanish from the | ||||||
10 | University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC); she earned | ||||||
11 | her Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University | ||||||
12 | in 2010; she married Gary Caldwell on April 13, 2019; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell began working at the RH School | ||||||
14 | of Performing Arts (RHSPA), where she was an integral part of | ||||||
15 | the staff, teaching dance and assisting with program | ||||||
16 | development; she also performed and taught within many dance | ||||||
17 | companies throughout Chicago; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell began working as a teacher | ||||||
19 | within the Chicago Public Schools after earning her master's | ||||||
20 | degree; she was a second grade teacher at West Pullman | ||||||
21 | Elementary School, where she served on the school's | ||||||
22 | Instructional Leadership Team; she began working at Tanner |

1 | Elementary School in 2014, becoming one of the founding | ||||||
2 | members of the Fine and Performing Arts Department; during her | ||||||
3 | tenure, she led the school through full arts integration and | ||||||
4 | played a vital role in organizing multiple performances, | ||||||
5 | musicals, and plays; she also successfully secured the | ||||||
6 | Creative Schools Grant which provided the resources and | ||||||
7 | funding to create an outdoor mural at the school; recently, | ||||||
8 | she began designing t-shirts under her business name, Nicole | ||||||
9 | Larue Designs; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, While attending UIUC, Dominique Caldwell was | ||||||
11 | inducted into the Delta Rho Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho | ||||||
12 | Sorority, Inc., where she was an avid stepper and loved | ||||||
13 | teaching others; she then matriculated into the Delta Sigma | ||||||
14 | Chapter, where she held the positions of Epistoleus, Rhoer | ||||||
15 | advisor, and 4th Anti Basileus; she assisted in her mother's | ||||||
16 | induction in 2007 and became a reverse legacy in Sigma; she was | ||||||
17 | a current member of the Eta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter, where she | ||||||
18 | previously served as a member of its step team; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell committed to her faith at a | ||||||
20 | young age; as a child, she attended St. Kilian Catholic Church | ||||||
21 | in Chicago; she then served as a praise dancer and | ||||||
22 | choreographer at St. Ailbe Catholic Church; she later became a | ||||||
23 | member of New Life Covenant Church; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell studied and learned various | ||||||
2 | dance styles, including ballet, modern, pointe, jazz, tap, and | ||||||
3 | hip-hop; she enjoyed making various arts and crafts, tackling | ||||||
4 | improvement projects, and making bracelets, craft and card | ||||||
5 | boxes, and baby shower baskets; she loved traveling and | ||||||
6 | spending time at the beach; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell will be remembered for her | ||||||
8 | creativity, her dry sense of humor, and her devotion to her | ||||||
9 | family and friends; her legacy will live on through Tanner | ||||||
10 | Elementary School's outdoor mural being dedicated in her | ||||||
11 | honor, memorializing her service to the school; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | grandfather, Otha Perkins, and her grandmother, Ida Mae Smith; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dominique Caldwell is survived by her husband, | ||||||
16 | Gary Caldwell; her daughter, Layla Nicole Caldwell; her | ||||||
17 | parents, Victor and Denina Smith, Kevin (Josephine) Laurent, | ||||||
18 | and Jennifer Jackson; her grandmothers, Thelma Perkins and | ||||||
19 | Gloria Martin; her sisters, Ashley (Justin) Bowman and | ||||||
20 | Victoria Smith; her brothers, Raymond (Amy) Laurent and | ||||||
21 | Cameron Laurent; her nephews, Jayce Bowman and Keishawn | ||||||
22 | Laurent; her nieces, Skylar Bowman and Kaleeya Laurent; her | ||||||
23 | godfather, Gary Bratcher; her godmother, Kim Muhammed; her |

1 | Sigma mother, Doris Brown; and a host of uncles, aunts, | ||||||
2 | cousins, friends, and in-laws; therefore, be it

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we mourn the passing of
Dominique Nicole Caldwell and extend | ||||||
6 | our sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who | ||||||
7 | knew and loved
her; and be it further
