| 1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 636
| ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 636 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
| ||||||
| 4 | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections | ||||||
| 5 | 10-20.55 and 34-18.47 as follows:
| ||||||
| 6 | (105 ILCS 5/10-20.55 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 10-20.55. Recess required in elementary school. | ||||||
| 8 | (a) A school board shall require that schools provide daily | ||||||
| 9 | recess for all students in pre-kindergarten through grade 8. | ||||||
| 10 | The recess must be at least 30 minutes in length. If recess is | ||||||
| 11 | attached to a lunch period, then the recess must be held prior | ||||||
| 12 | to the lunch period. Recess shall include unstructured play and | ||||||
| 13 | may include organized games. If the principal determines that | ||||||
| 14 | the weather is inclement, then the principal shall direct that | ||||||
| 15 | recess be held indoors. | ||||||
| 16 | (b) The school board shall prohibit the withholding of | ||||||

| 1 | recess as a disciplinary action. | ||||||
| 2 | (c) The time required for recesses by this Section is | ||||||
| 3 | included in the minimum number of hours necessary to constitute | ||||||
| 4 | a full day of attendance under Section 18-8.05 of this Code.
