Bill Title: Amends the Veterans Burial Places Act. Provides that the Department of Veterans' Affairs shall pay an amount not to exceed $125 (rather than $100) to the next of kin or $100 to the cemetery official responsible for the cost of transporting and erecting a headstone or memorial. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning regulation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Veterans Burial Places Act is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 1.1 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (330 ILCS 110/1.1) (from Ch. 21, par. 59a1)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 1.1.
When a headstone or memorial marker is provided | ||||||
8 | for a United
States War Veteran by the United States Government | ||||||
9 | pursuant to Section
2306 of Title 38 of the United States Code, | ||||||
10 | the Department of
Veterans' Affairs shall pay an amount not to | ||||||
11 | exceed $125 $100 to the
next of kin or $125 to the cemetery | ||||||
12 | official responsible
for
the cost of transporting and erecting | ||||||
13 | the headstone or memorial. However, no
such payment shall be | ||||||
14 | made unless a signed application is presented to the
Department | ||||||
15 | by the next of kin or cemetery official, along with such other | ||||||
16 | proof
of transportation or erection charges
as the Department | ||||||
17 | may require. All such applications for payment shall be
on | ||||||
18 | forms provided by the Department.
