Bill Title: Amends the School Code. Provides that of the 4 days annually that a regional superintendent may arrange for or conduct district, regional, or county institutes, 2 days may be used as a teacher's and educational support personnel workshop (instead of just a teacher's workshop). Provides that the days in any school year spent by educational support personnel during the term time spent in attendance upon a teachers' institute shall be considered time expended in the service of the school district and no deduction of wages shall be made for such attendance. Allows a school board to make a pro-rata deduction from the salary of any educational support personnel who fail or refuse to attend the teachers' institute.

AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1578
2 AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1578 as follows:
3on page 1, line 16, after "10-22.18d.", by inserting
4"Educational support personnel may be exempt from a workshop if
5(i) the workshop is not relevant to the work they do and (ii)
6the workshop is not related to the health and safety of
7students."; and
8on page 4, line 19, after "institute", by inserting ", unless,
9in the case of educational support personnel, they are exempt
10from attending".
