Bill Title: Amends the Fire Protection District Act. Provides that the board of trustees of a fire protection district must, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly, reimburse the mandatory training expenses of an EMT, EMT-I, A-EMT, or paramedic employed by or under contract with the fire protection district. Effective January 1, 2024.

AN ACT concerning local government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by
changing Section 16.08b as follows:
(70 ILCS 705/16.08b)
Sec. 16.08b. Emergency medical technician licensure;
training.
(a) The board of trustees of a fire protection district
may require that all firefighters hired on or after January 1,
2005 (the effective date of Public Act 93-952) by any fire
department within the district to must be licensed as an EMT,
EMT-I, A-EMT, or paramedic under the Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) Systems Act.
(b) The board of trustees of a fire protection district
must, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly,
reimburse the mandatory training expenses of an EMT, EMT-I,
A-EMT, or paramedic employed by or under contract with the
fire protection district, including the training expenses of a
firefighter required to be licensed as an EMT, EMT-I, A-EMT,
or paramedic under subsection (a).

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
1, 2024.
