Bill Title: Amends the Fire Protection District Act. Provides that the board of trustees of a fire protection district must, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly, reimburse the mandatory training expenses of an EMT, EMT-I, A-EMT, or paramedic employed by or under contract with the fire protection district. Effective January 1, 2024.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by
5changing Section 16.08b as follows:
6 (70 ILCS 705/16.08b)
7 Sec. 16.08b. Emergency medical technician licensure;
8training.
9 (a) The board of trustees of a fire protection district
10may require that all firefighters hired on or after January 1,
112005 (the effective date of Public Act 93-952) by any fire
12department within the district to must be licensed as an EMT,
13EMT-I, A-EMT, or paramedic under the Emergency Medical
14Services (EMS) Systems Act.
15 (b) The board of trustees of a fire protection district
16must, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly,
17reimburse the mandatory training expenses of an EMT, EMT-I,
18A-EMT, or paramedic employed by or under contract with the
19fire protection district, including the training expenses of a
20firefighter required to be licensed as an EMT, EMT-I, A-EMT,
21or paramedic under subsection (a).
