Bill Title: Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Deletes provisions requiring owners of underground storage tanks containing hazardous waste to register the tanks with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and provide the Agency with information concerning the contents of the tanks. Deletes a provision requiring the owners of registered tanks to notify the Agency of any change in registration information or of the removal the tank from service.

1 AN ACT concerning safety.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by
5changing Section 22.12 as follows:
6 (415 ILCS 5/22.12) (from Ch. 111 1/2, par. 1022.12)
7 Sec. 22.12. (a) The Agency shall coordinate with the
8Office of the State Fire Marshal in the administration of the
9Leaking Underground Storage Tank program, as established in
10Subtitle I of the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984
11(P.L. 98-616), as amended, of the Resource Conservation and
12Recovery Act of 1976 (P.L. 94-580). The Agency shall act as the
13lead agency in the formulation of regulations and policies,
14and shall be responsible for groundwater monitoring and any
15necessary site cleanup requirements encountered under the
16Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, the
17Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and
18Liability Act, or the State "Clean Illinois" program.
19 (b) By May 8, 1986, a person who is the owner of an
20underground storage tank containing hazardous waste on July 1,
211986 shall register the tank with the Agency on the form
22provided by the Agency pursuant to Subtitle I of The Hazardous
23and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984 (P.L. 98-616) of the
