| 1 | SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
| 3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
| ||||||
| 4 | who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
| ||||||
| 5 | ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, SGT Michael J. Vangelisti was born in Ottawa on | ||||||
| 7 | June 26, 1947 and graduated from Marseilles High School in | ||||||
| 8 | 1965; he attended Southern Illinois University and Bradley | ||||||
| 9 | University before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in August of | ||||||
| 10 | 1967; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, SGT Vangelisti entered active duty on January 18, | ||||||
| 12 | 1968 and was assigned to Vietnam in September of 1969; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, SGT Vangelisti died on April 28, 1970 due to | ||||||
| 14 | injuries sustained in an aircraft accident; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF | ||||||
| 17 | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the | ||||||
| 18 | section of Route 6 in the City of Marseilles that runs from the | ||||||
| 19 | intersections of Route 6 and Jefferson Street to Route 6 and | ||||||
| 20 | Main Street as the "SGT Michael J. Vangelisti Memorial | ||||||
| 21 | Highway"; and be it further

| 1 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
| ||||||
| 2 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
| 3 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
| 4 | giving notice of the name "SGT Michael J. Vangelisti Memorial | ||||||
| 5 | Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of SGT Vangelisti, the Mayor of | ||||||
| 8 | Marseilles, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of | ||||||
| 9 | Transportation.
