SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Paul W. Fromer of Downers Grove, who
4passed away on December 8, 2012; and
5 WHEREAS, Paul Fromer was born and raised in Elmira, New
6York; after earning his undergraduate degree at Syracuse
7University, he went on to pursue graduate studies in chemistry
8at the California Institute of Technology, but soon found
9himself called to seminary; he enrolled at the nearby Fuller
10Theological Seminary, where he eventually earned a master's
11degree; and
12 WHEREAS, During college, Paul Fromer became involved with
13the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship; after leaving Fuller in
141955, he worked as an InterVarsity staff worker on campuses in
15California, Arizona, and Nevada; in 1960, he moved to the
16Chicago area to become the editor of HIS magazine, a Christian
17publication for college students; in 1971, he left the magazine
18and joined Wheaton College as an English professor the
19following year; he also served as the faculty adviser to
20Wheaton's student newspaper, the Wheaton Record; after
21retiring from Wheaton in 1998, Mr. Fromer continued to research
22and write and led Bible studies; and

1 WHEREAS, Paul Fromer worked as a deputy editor at
2Christianity Today magazine; he also edited several of
3evangelist Billy Graham's books; and
4 WHEREAS, Paul Fromer is survived by his wife of 57 years,
5Margaret; his sons, Joel and David; his daughter, Ruth Fox; and
6his 3 grandchildren; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9his family and friends, the passing of Paul W. Fromer; and be
10it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Paul Fromer as an expression of our
13sympathy.
