2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Jack Daly of Hinsdale, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | February 5, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was raised in a hamlet on Long Island, New York | ||||||
6 | and was a die-hard fan of the New York Mets; he was also a big | ||||||
7 | fan of the Olympics and had been a torch runner for several of | ||||||
8 | the games; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jack Daly was McDonald's chief public relations | ||||||
10 | executive, who helped guide the global fast-food giant; he was | ||||||
11 | a company veteran with nearly 20 years at the Oak Brook-based | ||||||
12 | corporation and oversaw its global public relations; Mr. Daly | ||||||
13 | joined the company in 1992 as vice president of communications | ||||||
14 | and was later named senior vice president of corporate | ||||||
15 | communications in 2002; and

16 | WHEREAS, Nationally known in the public relations | ||||||
17 | industry, Mr. Daly was named in 2008 to PR Week's "Power List" | ||||||
18 | of 25 top leaders; he was also involved in Ronald McDonald | ||||||
19 | House Charities; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Daly focused on politics, | ||||||
21 | serving as press secretary to Ohio Governor Jim Rhodes from |

1 | 1974 to 1976 and 1980 to 1981; from 1976 to 1980, he worked as a | ||||||
2 | sports reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer and held a | ||||||
3 | research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania's | ||||||
4 | Annenberg School of Communications; and

5 | WHEREAS, He founded his own public relations agency, J. | ||||||
6 | Daly & Associates, in 1983; four years later, he joined | ||||||
7 | GolinHarris Communications in Chicago as vice president of the | ||||||
8 | agency's McDonald's account; he was eventually promoted to | ||||||
9 | deputy general manager of the Chicago office; he left Golin in | ||||||
10 | 1991 to become vice president of public affairs for Taco Bell, | ||||||
11 | before joining McDonald's a year later; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jack Daly is survived by his wife, Gail; his sons, | ||||||
13 | Brendan, Patrick, and Evan; his mother, Virginia; and his | ||||||
14 | siblings Patricia Daly, Denise Grieve, and Tim Daly; therefore, | ||||||
15 | be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
18 | his family and friends, the passing of Jack Daly; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Jack Daly as a symbol of our sincere | ||||||
22 | sympathy.
