2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of George Thomas Warfield Jr. of Decatur, | ||||||
4 | formerly of Los Angeles, California, who passed away on March | ||||||
5 | 4, 2023; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, George Warfield was born to George Thomas Sr. and | ||||||
7 | Jessie Pauline (Ledsinger) Warfield in Louisville, Kentucky on | ||||||
8 | October 11, 1938; he was raised in Metropolis, graduating from | ||||||
9 | Metropolis High School in 1956; he relocated to Decatur after | ||||||
10 | graduation that same year, where he was employed as a factory | ||||||
11 | laborer with Caterpillar; he joined the U.S. Navy in January | ||||||
12 | 1958, serving on active duty for four years and in the Navy | ||||||
13 | Reserve for four years before being honorably discharged in | ||||||
14 | 1964; he then moved to Los Angeles, California and attended | ||||||
15 | Los Angeles Trade Technical College, where he studied brick | ||||||
16 | masonry, and Los Angeles City College; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, George Warfield was employed as an animal control | ||||||
18 | officer by the County of Los Angeles, retiring in 1998; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, George Warfield was a member of First AME Church | ||||||
20 | Los Angeles and a member of the Men of FAME Choir, where he | ||||||
21 | often made baked goods for the youth department; he was known | ||||||
22 | for his signature peach cobbler and lemonade cake; and

1 | WHEREAS, George Warfield was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | parents; his sister, Charlene Delores; his brother, Lannis | ||||||
3 | Wayne Warfield Sr.; his nephews, Lannis Wayne Warfield Jr. and | ||||||
4 | Brian "Poncho" Carney; and his niece, Ebony Jewel Howard; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Warfield is survived by his daughters, | ||||||
6 | Lori Nadine Warfield and Toni Yvette Adams; his grandchildren, | ||||||
7 | Aubrey Brooks Haynes, Brandon Connish, and Daniel R. Phillips; | ||||||
8 | his brothers, Jesse O. Warfield, Larry E. (Eloise) Warfield, | ||||||
9 | and Roger (Mattie) Warfield; his sisters, Joel I. (Louis) | ||||||
10 | Webster, Gloria E. (John) Jordan, Jackie S. Warfield, Freda R. | ||||||
11 | (Chester) Parsons, and Beverly A. Warfield; his special | ||||||
12 | friends, Katherine Hines and Arthur Perkins; and a host of | ||||||
13 | nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | George Thomas Warfield Jr. and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
17 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
18 | it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of George Warfield as an expression of | ||||||
21 | our deepest sympathy.
