| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Melvin Earl Brock, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | December 28, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was born on February 20, 1963, in | ||||||
6 | Drew, Mississippi; his parents were James and Mary Alice Brock; | ||||||
7 | he married Ina Brock on August 11, 2001; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was educated in the Mississippi | ||||||
9 | public school system; while in school, he played the saxophone, | ||||||
10 | ran track, and played football; he later earned associate's | ||||||
11 | degrees in communications and electronics and micro computer | ||||||
12 | electronics from Belleville Area College; he subsequently | ||||||
13 | continued his education and earned his bachelor's degree in | ||||||
14 | electronics management from Southern Illinois University at | ||||||
15 | Carbondale; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock served his country as a member of the | ||||||
17 | Illinois Army National Guard until his retirement after 21 | ||||||
18 | years of service; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was an employee of the East St. Louis | ||||||
20 | Casting Company, Boeing, and the Menard Correctional Facility; | ||||||
21 | he spent his last 11 years working for the Department of |

1 | Central Management Services in Springfield, where he was | ||||||
2 | stationed at the Illinois Department of Health as an IT support | ||||||
3 | specialist; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock devoted all of his free time to his | ||||||
5 | sons' activities by coaching and mentoring other young men in | ||||||
6 | baseball, football, basketball, and in Boy Scouts as an | ||||||
7 | assistant den leader; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was preceded in death by his mother; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Melvin Brock is survived by his wife, Ina M. | ||||||
11 | Brock; his sons, Anthony Dupree and Melvin D. Brock; his | ||||||
12 | father, James Brock; his sisters, Christine (Michael) Schafer, | ||||||
13 | JoAnn (Vincent) Cook, and Ella Jean (Troy) Jenkins; his | ||||||
14 | brothers, James Brock, Jr., Frankie Brock, Martin Brock, and | ||||||
15 | Leroy (Janie) Smith; his grandson, Jason Jevon Dupree; his | ||||||
16 | special uncles, Willie E. Thompson and Joe Lee (Diana) | ||||||
17 | Thompson, Sr.; and his many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, | ||||||
18 | in-laws, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
21 | his family and friends, the passing of Melvin Earl Brock; and | ||||||
22 | be it further
