2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of James Henry "Jim" Goebbert of Huntley, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on June 17, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert was born to George and Ernestine | ||||||
6 | Goebbert on May 28, 1929; he was baptized at St. John Lutheran | ||||||
7 | Church on June 8, 1929; he graduated from Arlington Heights | ||||||
8 | High School; he served in the U.S. Marines from 1951 to 1953; | ||||||
9 | he married Esther Von Bergen at St. Luke Lutheran Church in | ||||||
10 | Itasca on November 17, 1956; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert tended to his family's farm from an | ||||||
12 | early age; in 1972, he bought his own 40-acre farm in South | ||||||
13 | Barrington and moved his family there; he owned and operated | ||||||
14 | Goebbert's Farm and Garden Center in South Barrington and | ||||||
15 | Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch in Pingree Grove; and

16 | WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert served on the Cook County Extension | ||||||
17 | Council for six years; he was elected to the Cook County Farm | ||||||
18 | Bureau in 1974 and served in various roles until 2006; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert was a loving husband, father, | ||||||
20 | grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend; and

1 | WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
2 | and his brother-in-law, Eugene Lichthardt; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
4 | children, Luanne (Curtis) Smith, Lee (Diane) Goebbert, and | ||||||
5 | Lloyd (Terry) Goebbert; his grandchildren, Kelly (Ross) | ||||||
6 | Conner, Ben (Jen) Goebbert, Jessica (Simon) Crass, Jacob | ||||||
7 | (Heather) Goebbert, James (Brittany) Goebbert, John (Luis) | ||||||
8 | Smith, and Ryan (Kaleigh) Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and | ||||||
9 | his sister, Lilah Lichthardt; therefore, be it

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

12 | James Henry "Jim" Goebbert and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
13 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
