1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Warren Arthur Harris of Peoria, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on May 17, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Warren Harris was born in Peoria on September 19, | ||||||
6 | 1936 to Ruth (nee Hulquist) and Clarence Harris; he attended | ||||||
7 | Peoria Heights Grade School, Woodruff High School, and Bradley | ||||||
8 | University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
9 | Business; he married Patricia McFarlane on July 29, 1961; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Warren Harris was employed as a systems analyst by | ||||||
11 | Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1999; he served on several City | ||||||
12 | of Peoria commissions and was precinct committeeman for the | ||||||
13 | Uplands Neighborhood Association and President of the West | ||||||
14 | Bluff Council in 1987; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Warren Harris was a member the Universalist | ||||||
16 | Unitarian Church, where he served as President in the 1980s and | ||||||
17 | received the Outstanding Service Award from the church in 2007; | ||||||
18 | he marched for civil rights and the peace movement and | ||||||
19 | supported equal rights for women and LGBT individuals; after | ||||||
20 | retirement, he volunteered at Springdale Cemetery; he served as | ||||||
21 | Vice-President of the Peoria Chapter of the ACLU and received | ||||||
22 | the David Citron Award in 2008 for his contributions to civil |

1 | rights in the Peoria area; and

2 | WHEREAS, Warren Harris was affectionately called "Uncle | ||||||
3 | Warnie"; he enjoyed politics, reading, movies, dogs, crossword | ||||||
4 | puzzles, the dictionary, the writings of Robert G. Ingersoll, | ||||||
5 | and music; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Warren Harris was preceded in death by his | ||||||
7 | brother, the Rev. Gerald Harris; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Warren Harris is survived by his wife, Patricia; | ||||||
9 | his 5 daughters, Margaret Lee (Bill) Schmider, Kathleen | ||||||
10 | Michelle (Tom) Hafele, Joan Marie (Shannon) Walden, Elizabeth | ||||||
11 | Jean (Matt) Allen, and Michelle Therese (Troy) Adams; his 12 | ||||||
12 | grandchildren, Michael Harris, Joshua Harris, Jessica and | ||||||
13 | Jennifer Schmider, Jake and Kassidy Hafele, Kyle and Delaney | ||||||
14 | Walden, MacKenzie and Jack Allen, and Ayla and Bowie Adams; his | ||||||
15 | 5 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Caylee, Brooklyn, Naevia, and | ||||||
16 | Liam; his sisters, Donna (Bob) Norman and Doris Kamrowski; his | ||||||
17 | sister-in-law, Joan Harris; and many nieces and nephews and | ||||||
18 | other relatives; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Warren Arthur Harris, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
22 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
