2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Lana Lee Benedict of Chatham, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 2, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict was born in Springfield on August | ||||||
6 | 19, 1946 to William Henry and Doris V. Templeton LaFauce, Sr.; | ||||||
7 | she married Roger "John" Benedict on June 14, 1980; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict retired after a career with the | ||||||
9 | Illinois Secretary of State Driver Services Division; she also | ||||||
10 | owned Lov'n Spoonful Catering; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict was an active member of Cherry Hills | ||||||
12 | Baptist Church, where she prepared and served many meals and | ||||||
13 | bottomless cups of coffee, sang in the choir, and volunteered | ||||||
14 | with Amigos en Cristo on 3 mission trips to Ciudad Juarez, | ||||||
15 | Mexico; she served as President of the Chatham Kiwanis and | ||||||
16 | catered their meetings at the Chatham Area Public Library; she | ||||||
17 | was also a member and President of the Chatham American Legion | ||||||
18 | Post 759 Auxiliary, preparing many of the delicious desserts | ||||||
19 | and sides for the post's famous fish fries and serving as the | ||||||
20 | group's assistant funeral meal coordinator; she catered the | ||||||
21 | Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser for the Chatham Community | ||||||
22 | Library for many years, was past President of the Prairie State |

1 | Orchid Society, coordinated the Feast of Plenty Community | ||||||
2 | Thanksgiving Dinner at Central Baptist Church, and volunteered | ||||||
3 | in the kitchen at the Lake Springfield Baptist Camp; she sang | ||||||
4 | with the Sweet Adelines Sound Celebrations Chorus for over 35 | ||||||
5 | years; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict and her husband fostered nearly 40 | ||||||
7 | children through the years, making a positive difference in so | ||||||
8 | many lives; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict won multiple awards for her jams, | ||||||
10 | jellies, and salsa at the Illinois State Fair and was named | ||||||
11 | Grand Champion for her Baked Apple Butter; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | parents; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Lana Benedict is survived by her husband of 35 | ||||||
15 | years, John; her children, Craig (Kimberly) Tepker, David | ||||||
16 | (Marie) Benedict, Melissa (Gary) Dougherty, Christie (Tim) | ||||||
17 | Clark, and Kevin (Jennifer) Tepker; her grandchildren, Kilyan | ||||||
18 | and Addison Dougherty, Marshall, Landon, and Lenora Clark, | ||||||
19 | Collin, Owen, Katelyn, and Eli Tepker, Stephen (Karen) St. | ||||||
20 | Hilaire, Jill (Justin) Hammett, and Lorie (John) Miller; her 5 | ||||||
21 | great-grandchildren; her brother Bill (Dottie) LaFauce; her | ||||||
22 | nephews, Marc, Will, Nick, and Erik LaFauce, and many friends; |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Lana Lee Benedict, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
5 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
6 | further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Lana Benedict as an expression of | ||||||
9 | our deepest sympathy.
