SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lana Lee Benedict of Chatham, who passed
4away on October 2, 2015; and
5 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict was born in Springfield on August
619, 1946 to William Henry and Doris V. Templeton LaFauce, Sr.;
7she married Roger "John" Benedict on June 14, 1980; and
8 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict retired after a career with the
9Illinois Secretary of State Driver Services Division; she also
10owned Lov'n Spoonful Catering; and
11 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict was an active member of Cherry Hills
12Baptist Church, where she prepared and served many meals and
13bottomless cups of coffee, sang in the choir, and volunteered
14with Amigos en Cristo on 3 mission trips to Ciudad Juarez,
15Mexico; she served as President of the Chatham Kiwanis and
16catered their meetings at the Chatham Area Public Library; she
17was also a member and President of the Chatham American Legion
18Post 759 Auxiliary, preparing many of the delicious desserts
19and sides for the post's famous fish fries and serving as the
20group's assistant funeral meal coordinator; she catered the
21Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser for the Chatham Community
22Library for many years, was past President of the Prairie State

1Orchid Society, coordinated the Feast of Plenty Community
2Thanksgiving Dinner at Central Baptist Church, and volunteered
3in the kitchen at the Lake Springfield Baptist Camp; she sang
4with the Sweet Adelines Sound Celebrations Chorus for over 35
5years; and
6 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict and her husband fostered nearly 40
7children through the years, making a positive difference in so
8many lives; and
9 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict won multiple awards for her jams,
10jellies, and salsa at the Illinois State Fair and was named
11Grand Champion for her Baked Apple Butter; and
12 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict was preceded in death by her
13parents; and
14 WHEREAS, Lana Benedict is survived by her husband of 35
15years, John; her children, Craig (Kimberly) Tepker, David
16(Marie) Benedict, Melissa (Gary) Dougherty, Christie (Tim)
17Clark, and Kevin (Jennifer) Tepker; her grandchildren, Kilyan
18and Addison Dougherty, Marshall, Landon, and Lenora Clark,
19Collin, Owen, Katelyn, and Eli Tepker, Stephen (Karen) St.
20Hilaire, Jill (Justin) Hammett, and Lorie (John) Miller; her 5
21great-grandchildren; her brother Bill (Dottie) LaFauce; her
22nephews, Marc, Will, Nick, and Erik LaFauce, and many friends;

2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Lana Lee Benedict, and extend our sincere condolences to her
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
6further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Lana Benedict as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
