2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Duane W. Strunk of Champaign, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 23, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was born on August 21, 1939 to | ||||||
6 | William C. and Ruth (nee Wasner) Strunk; he served in the | ||||||
7 | United States Army, attended Bradley University in Peoria, and | ||||||
8 | graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign | ||||||
9 | with a degree in agriculture economics; he married Nancy L. | ||||||
10 | Smith on April 25, 1964; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was an Illinois licensed general | ||||||
12 | appraiser, farm manager, rural appraiser, and real estate | ||||||
13 | managing broker; he began his career at Commercial National | ||||||
14 | Bank in Peoria and moved to the Champaign National Bank Farm | ||||||
15 | Department in 1976 as department head; in 1985, he opened | ||||||
16 | Strunk & Assoc., Inc., specializing in farm real estate; and

17 | WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was a loyal Illini; he enjoyed all | ||||||
18 | sports, especially women's basketball, and meeting young | ||||||
19 | students; he was an alumnus of the College of Agricultural, | ||||||
20 | Consumer, and Environmental Sciences; he served on the College | ||||||
21 | of Agriculture Board of Directors for over 15 years and on the | ||||||
22 | University of Illinois General Board of Directors; and

1 | WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was an active member of the Illinois | ||||||
2 | Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, | ||||||
3 | earning the Accredited Farm Manager and Accredited Rural | ||||||
4 | Appraiser designations; he was also an active member of the | ||||||
5 | Champaign County Farm Bureau and past board of directors | ||||||
6 | member, a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau Equine Grits | ||||||
7 | committee, a 4-H Leader, a member of the University of Illinois | ||||||
8 | Extension State Advisory Council, and a Kiwanis Club of | ||||||
9 | Champaign-Urbana member for over 35 years; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was a graduate of the first class of | ||||||
11 | Illinois Ag Leadership (1984); he was a national Pony of the | ||||||
12 | Americas Club member, serving on various committees, and was an | ||||||
13 | owner and breeder of Illini Pony of the Americas; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Duane Strunk is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith; | ||||||
15 | he is the proud parent of Derek (Kami) Strunk, Nicole (Doug) | ||||||
16 | Webel, Dawn Strunk Reesman, and Colleen (Karl) Scherer;
the | ||||||
17 | proud grandfather of Blake, Cole, and Ashley Webel, Jacob, | ||||||
18 | Lindsey, Nicholas, and Lucas Scherer, and Taryn, Danielle, and | ||||||
19 | Dane Strunk; he is also survived by his brother, Eugene (Gene) | ||||||
20 | and Joyce Strunk; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Duane W. Strunk, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

6 | deepest sympathy.
