2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Lori J. Wilcox-Knight; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight, born in 1976, received a | ||||||
5 | Bachelor of Arts from Western Illinois University, an | ||||||
6 | ABA-Approved, Post-Bachelor Paralegal Certificate from | ||||||
7 | Roosevelt University Chicago, and a Master of Education from | ||||||
8 | American Intercontinental University, and she was pursuing a | ||||||
9 | Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty | ||||||
10 | University; she was a Certified, Registered, and Master | ||||||
11 | Municipal Clerk; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight was a combat war veteran; she | ||||||
13 | joined the U.S. Army in 1993 at the age of 17, and her tenure | ||||||
14 | included being stationed in Germany, Japan, Korea, and Austria | ||||||
15 | and participating in Operation Joint Guard in Bosnia from 1997 | ||||||
16 | to 1998; during her time in the military, she served as an | ||||||
17 | administrative specialist, a postal operations sergeant, and a | ||||||
18 | reserve hospital unit administrator until 2005; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight made history when she was | ||||||
20 | first elected City Clerk of the City of Chicago Heights in | ||||||
21 | 2011, and she completed and retired from her third term in May | ||||||
22 | 2023; she won a historic election as committeeman of Bloom |

1 | Township Democrats in March 2018, becoming the second woman | ||||||
2 | and youngest person to hold that position; she was the former | ||||||
3 | co-chair of the Cook County Democratic Party's Outreach | ||||||
4 | Committee; she also served as a member of Governor JB Pritzker | ||||||
5 | and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton's 2018 Veterans Transition | ||||||
6 | Team, and she later served as a member of Secretary of State | ||||||
7 | Alex Giannoulias' 2023 Library Transition Team; during her | ||||||
8 | tenure in public life, she was known for supporting, engaging, | ||||||
9 | educating, and empowering women candidates, helping over 10 | ||||||
10 | women become judges and many others to join, to gain, and to | ||||||
11 | grow in the political arena; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight worked as a business | ||||||
13 | development and executive leadership coach from November 2022 | ||||||
14 | to November 2023, incorporating reading, writing, and | ||||||
15 | volunteering to help senior level executives and healthcare | ||||||
16 | professionals transition into entrepreneurship; she aspired to | ||||||
17 | become a children's mental health counselor; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight had been a member of Rotary | ||||||
19 | International since 2011, where she held the positions of | ||||||
20 | assistant governor, for which she was named Assistant Governor | ||||||
21 | of the Year, president of the Chicago Heights-Park Forest | ||||||
22 | Rotary Club, and international convention chairperson for | ||||||
23 | Rotary District 6450's visit to Korea; she also hosted three | ||||||
24 | Friendship Exchange delegations from Nigeria in 2017, 2022, |

1 | and 2023, and she hosted a Friendship Delegation for a | ||||||
2 | Vanderbilt University Fellow from Thailand; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight volunteered at her youngest | ||||||
4 | son's junior high school, Cornerstone Christian School, | ||||||
5 | providing mentoring, capacity building, and a food pantry and | ||||||
6 | serving as a volunteer resource officer; she also volunteered | ||||||
7 | at a local nursing home, providing spiritual care, and she was | ||||||
8 | an active minister in the church; she sat on the boards of | ||||||
9 | multiple non-profits; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight was the recipient of numerous | ||||||
11 | accolades, including receiving the Illinois Women in | ||||||
12 | Leadership Public Fellowship in 2015 and being selected by the | ||||||
13 | Chicago Defender as one of the 50 Women of Excellence in 2016; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight was a mother, daughter, | ||||||
16 | sister, and friend who was passionate about supporting | ||||||
17 | initiatives involving veterans, women in business, cancer | ||||||
18 | survivors, and small private schools; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight is survived by her children, | ||||||
20 | Taylor, Frankie, and Lorenz; therefore, be it
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |

2 | Lori J. Wilcox-Knight and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
