RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the Family Crisis Shelter in Crawfordsville.

    Whereas, Unfortunately, domestic violence has become much more commonplace in today's society;

    Whereas, All too often victims of domestic violence have no avenue of escape;

    Whereas, For more than 30 years the Family Crisis Shelter has been providing victims of domestic violence and sexual assault a safe haven;

    Whereas, The mission of the Family Crisis Shelter, established in 1979, is "to provide quality emergency shelter and transitional living in a supportive environment with prevention and intervention services while advocating for the rights of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault";

    Whereas, Open 365 days a year, the Family Crisis Shelter provides victims and their families with the information they need to help themselves or connects them to speak with a caring individual trained in crisis intervention;

    Whereas, The case management team at the Family Crisis Shelter works to empower the survivors to help them achieve goals that will lead to a safe self-sufficiency;

    Whereas, Children, greatly affected by domestic violence, receive instructions at the shelter on how to deal with the

anger and sadness that accompany domestic violence;

    Whereas, In an effort to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault, the community liaison works within the community to help educate individuals about these issues; and

    Whereas, The Family Crisis Shelter has provided a safe, hospitable shelter for some of the most endangered citizens of our community for more than 30 years: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly acknowledges the outstanding work performed by the Family Crisis Shelter and the enormous contribution it makes to the well-being of the citizens of Indiana.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the Family Crisis Shelter.
