A HOUSE RESOLUTION memorializing Sergeant
JaBraun Knox.
Whereas, Sergeant JaBraun Steven Knox, assigned to 1st
Battalion (Air Assault), 377th Field Artillery Regiment, 17th
Fires Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, died
May 18, 2012, in Asadabad, Afghanistan, when an enemy
rocket struck an area where extra shells were stored;
Whereas, Stationed in Afghanistan since November 2011,
Sergeant Knox had served in the United States Army for more
than three years and had previously been deployed to Iraq;
Whereas, Born in Fort Wayne on July 13, 1988, Sergeant Knox was a 2007 graduate of DeKalb High School;
Whereas, Sergeant Knox was an outstanding athlete, playing quarterback and defense in football and center field in baseball, winning all-conference honors from the Northeast Hoosier Conference and first-team all-area recognition from KPC Media Group;
Whereas, A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn,
Sergeant Knox married Courtney Beerbower on November 9,
2009, and later welcomed his son, Braylon;
Whereas, Sergeant Knox's passionate love for his country
and its citizens was evident in his desire to serve his country;
Whereas, Sergeant Knox touched the lives of many people
in a positive way, a testament to the man he was; and
Whereas, The people of the State of Indiana join with the
family, friends, and fellow servicemen and servicewomen of
Sergeant JaBraun Knox and extend to his family sincere and
heartfelt sympathy in this time of loss: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives pays tribute to an outstanding American who gave his life in defense of freedom. The House of Representatives extends its deepest sympathy to his family.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the family of United States Army Sergeant JaBraun Knox.
