A RESOLUTION congratulating the Western High
School Marching Band.
Whereas, The Western High School Marching Panthers
placed first in the Class C Indiana State School Music
Association Marching Band State Finals for the third year in a
row;
Whereas, Western High School's theme for the competition
was "Amelia" with music by Philip Glass, Damien Rice, and
Samuel Barber;
Whereas, The Marching Panthers performed to music composed by 1989 graduate Don Barrett for its show presentation;
Whereas, In the past ten years, the Western High School Marching Band has been in the top ten in the state in its class seven times: first in 2010, first in 2009, first in 2008, second in 2007, seventh in 2006, fourth in 2005, and sixth in 2004;
Whereas, In the 38-year history of the Indiana State School
Music Association, the Western High School Marching Band
has reached the top ten in the state in Class B or Class C 25
times;
Whereas, Band director Brian Caldwell and assistant
director Keith Whitford deserve special accolades for leading
the band to such excellence; and
Whereas, It is fitting that the accomplishments of the
Marching Panthers be given additional recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That, on behalf of the people of Indiana, the Indiana House of Representatives wishes to congratulate each member of the Western High School Marching Band.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to each band member, director Brian Caldwell, and assistant director Keith Whitford.
