HOUSE BILL NO. 4691
A bill to amend 1978 PA 472, entitled
"An act to regulate political activity; to regulate lobbyists, lobbyist agents, and lobbying activities; to require registration of lobbyists and lobbyist agents; to require the filing of reports; to prescribe the powers and duties of the department of state; to prescribe penalties; and to repeal certain acts and parts of acts,"
(MCL 4.411 to 4.431) by adding section 7a.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 7a. A lobbyist, lobbyist agent, or person required to file a report under this act is ineligible for any civil appointment within this state from the governor, legislature, or any other state authority, not including an appointment as a notary public, unless the appointing authority determines that the appointment would not result in a conflict of interest. For purposes of this section, an appointment would result in a conflict of interest if the appointee's lobbying interests would tend to improperly influence the performance of the appointee's civil duties.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect January 1, 2022.
