A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1168.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1168. (1) The department shall develop or select
recommended model instructional content and materials regarding
ethnic, racial, or minority groups, including, but not limited to,
women, African Americans, Arab and Chaldean Americans, Asian
Americans, Native Americans, and Latino Americans.
(2) A school district or public school academy is encouraged
to adopt and include as part of its existing curriculum relating to
social studies or civics the recommended model instructional
content and materials developed or selected by the department under
subsection (1).
(3) The department shall serve as a central clearinghouse by
making available to schools in this state the recommended model
instructional content and materials developed or selected by the
department under subsection (1). Each intermediate school district
shall designate a liaison to work with constituent districts to
access the recommended model instructional content and materials
described under subsection (1) and made available by the
department.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
