SENATE BILL NO. 465
A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 643b.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 643b. (1) The operator of a vehicle shall not follow a snowplow more closely than the following distances, as applicable:
(a) On a street or highway with a speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour, 200 feet.
(b) Ona street or highway with a speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less, 75 feet.
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply when the operator of a vehicle is legally overtaking or passing a snowplow.
(3) The operator of a vehicle that is not a snowplow that approaches a snowplow from the rear that is stopped at or in an intersection shall do both of the following:
(a) Stop not less than 20 feet from the snowplow.
(b) Remain stopped until the snowplow resumes motion and vacates the intersection.
(4) A person that violates this section is responsible for a civil infraction.
(5) As used in this section, "snowplow" means a vehicle described in section 698(5)(d).
