SENATE BILL No. 680

 

 

June 25, 2009, Introduced by Senators PAPPAGEORGE, BROWN, KAHN and BIRKHOLZ and referred to the Committee on Transportation.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled

 

"Michigan vehicle code,"

 

(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 314a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 314a. (1) The secretary of state shall, at the time a

 

driver license is issued to or renewed by an individual described

 

in subsection (2), provide the individual with written information

 

in a form determined appropriate by the secretary of state

 

regarding the prohibitions against and penalties for selling or

 

furnishing alcoholic liquor to a minor in violation of section 701

 

of the Michigan liquor control code of 1998, 1998 PA 58, MCL

 

436.1701.

 


     (2) The written information described in subsection (1) shall

 

be provided to an individual who is 21 years of age or older and

 

who was not previously issued the information described in

 

subsection (1).

 

     (3) As used in this section, "alcoholic liquor" means that

 

term as defined in section 105 of the Michigan liquor control code

 

of 1998, 1998 PA 58, MCL 436.1105.
