1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. [10.555] CESAR CHAVEZ DAY.
1.6(a) March 31 shall be known as Cesar Chavez Day to celebrate the growing Latino
1.7community in Minnesota. Latinos constitute a major demographic in the state. Dedicating
1.8March 31 of each year as Cesar Chavez Day provides the citizens of Minnesota the
1.9opportunity to learn about and appreciate the Latino community and their contributions to
1.10our state.
1.11(b) As a community organizer, Chavez improved the lives and working conditions
1.12of millions of Latinos nationwide. He dedicated his life to advocating for labor rights,
1.13political representation for ethnic minorities, environmental justice, registering voters,
1.14and improving literacy for farm workers.
