1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing November 2011 as American Diabetes Month in Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, in the United States, nearly 26 million people have diabetes, a serious disease
1.4with potentially life-threatening complications such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney
1.5disease, nerve pain, and amputation; and
1.6WHEREAS, an additional 79 million people in the United States have pre-diabetes and are
1.7at high risk for developing type-2 diabetes; and
1.8WHEREAS, one out of every three children--and one out of every two minorities--born
1.9today will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue; and
1.10WHEREAS, an increase in community awareness is necessary to put a stop to the diabetes
1.11epidemic; and
1.12NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.13it recognizes November 2011 as American Diabetes Month in Minnesota and encourages all
1.14Minnesotans to join the American Diabetes Association's movement to Stop Diabetes and work
1.15together to change the future of this deadly disease
