Summary

An Act To Require A Local School District To Provide Notice Of The Assignment Of An Improperly Or Nonlicensed Teacher To The Same Classroom For More Than 30 Consecutive Day To A Student's Parent Or Legal Guardian; To Specify The Time Within Which The Notice Must Be Provided; To Exempt Certain Schools From The Notice Requirement; To Amend Section 37-3-2, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The State Board Of Education To Adopt Rules Providing For Teacher Preparation And Continuing Education Programs For The Licensing Of Nontraditional Teachers; To Exempt Certain Teachers With Certain Experience From The Continuing Education Requirements Of This Section; To Authorize A Local School District To Issue A Teaching Permit And Employ Certain Persons Who Does Not Hold A Valid License; To Provide Reciprocity For Licensure To Certain Persons; To Require The Board To Adopt Rules Allowing A Licensed Teacher To Qualify For Additional Certification; To Amend Section 37-3-89, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The Board To Adopt Rules Establishing The Training Requirements Necessary To Obtain A License Or Enter A Teacher Internship; To Establish Performance Standards For Teacher Preparation Programs; To Amend Section 37-149-1, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The State Board For Education, The Board Of Trustees Of State Institutions Of Higher Learning And The State Board For Community And Junior Colleges To Develop And Implement Programs To Identify And Recruit Person To Become Teachers, To Prescribe The Responsibilities Of Those Entities With Respect To Teacher Recruit, And To Prescribe The Use Of Any Funds Made Available For Teacher Recruitment Purposes; To Bring Forward Sections 37-149-3, 37-149-7 And 37-159-9, Mississippi Code Of 1972, Which Establish The Goals And Function Of The Mississippi Teacher Center, Provide For The Appointment And Prescribes The Duties Of Teacher Recruiters And Creates The Teacher Recruitment And Retention Grant Program Respectively, Or Purposes Of Possible Amendment; To Bring Forward Section 37-19-7, Mississippi Code Of 1972, Which Provides For Teacher Compensation, For Purposes Of Possible Amendments; And For Related Purposes.
